Let’s piece together your finished product…

Hi writers! Whether you have a notebook full of ideas or a full manuscript, I’m here to help! I offer editing for all sorts of projects, including yours. Let’s figure out the type and timeline that work best for us.

I make sure your story says what you want it to say.

My specialty is developmental editing: providing feedback on plot development, character-building, and structure. This involves collaboration between editor and writer through written summaries, joint comments, and face-to-face discussion.

About the editor

Maddi Smith

While earning my Bachelors’ Degrees in English and journalism, I edited with hundreds of writers as a University Writing Coach at Northern Illinois University. This ranged from fiction passion projects to academic assignments, from brainstorming to proof-reading to rewriting!

I discovered that I love the maze of writing and the puzzle of piecing together exactly what a writer is saying (and what they want to say). I love the collaboration of sitting down with someone, finding their vision, and making our way to that perfect finished product.

I taught writing courses at Northern Illinois University during my Master’s in Literature and Rhetoric/Composition. During these semesters, I worked with writers from start to finish: vision, creation, and revision.

I currently live in Madison, Wi, after a short stint at the University of Edinburgh. COVID interrupted my writing studies in Scotland, but I’ve devoted that energy and focuse to helping other authors find their story!

Outside of Looseleaf Editing, I’ve been languishing in the writer trenches, working on my debut contemporary romance novel, Fault Lines, and countless other side projects.
